Meet Your Coach: Bob Degus
Bob Degus – Oscar Voter, Filmmaker & Mentor to the Next Generation
🎬 What makes a short film stand out? I’ve spent my career finding the answer.
As a longtime voting member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, I’ve judged thousands of Oscar-nominated films and mentored the next generation of filmmakers as an Oscar Gold Mentor.
I’ve been on both sides of the filmmaking journey—from directing and producing feature films, like the triple Oscar-nominated feature Pleasantville, to overseeing more than 25 movies as a production executive at New Line Cinema, including Austin Powers, Friday, and Set It Off.
📽 But my passion for short films runs deep. Early in my Hollywood career, I was Head of Production at Chanticleer Films, where I helped produce over 40 short films, leading to 5 Oscar nominations—including two that I personally produced, one starring Brad Pitt.
Today, I continue to direct, write, and produce while helping emerging filmmakers master the art of short films and navigate the competitive world of festivals, funding, and distribution.
🏆 If you’re serious about making films that get noticed, I invite you to join me inside Hollywood Film Coach. Let’s bring your stories to life—and make sure the world sees them.

I’ve watched over 3,000 short films—so you don’t have to. As an Oscar voter I’ve spent years analyzing what makes a short film stand out—and now I’m sharing that knowledge inside Hollywood Film Coach.
In our exclusive Coffee With the Coach sessions, I’ll break down the key lessons I’ve learned, answer your biggest filmmaking questions, and help you navigate the challenges of making festival-worthy films.
Plus, in Frame-By-Frame, our live film analysis sessions, we’ll dissect award-winning shorts together to understand exactly what makes them work.
All of this unfolds inside a private, distraction-free Mighty Network, where you can discuss, collaborate, and grow alongside fellow filmmakers.
